A settlement with the porn culture in “Live from Bergen”
For many, pornography is both an unpleasant and inappropriate topic that is avoided like the plague itself – and perhaps especially in Christian circles. Nevertheless, Bergitte Viste believes that it is absolutely necessary to talk about. She believes that pornography is both more widespread and harmful than most people think. She assumes that an unhealthy relationship with the body and sex – especially among young people – cause obvious consequences.
Concerned about the increase in sexual violence
However, the main concern for the activist is that young people choose to practice what they have learned on the computer screen, in reality:
“Today’s pornography conveys that sex exists to give the man pleasure and teaches us that ‘no’ really means ‘yes’… Porn use is most likely associated with a
greater risk of sexual violence and can therefore be one of the several reasons for the many party rapes we see among young people today”
Bergitte Viste claims this on her website – a place where the activist’s clear perception of pornography gets its full outlet.
Lecture on “The consequences of porn culture”
Bergitte Viste has a master’s degree in engineering, but works daily to travel around to give lectures on “The consequences of porn culture”. This is where the technical skills from the educational course come in handy, because here it is statistics and hard facts that apply.
Viste is also a teaching consultant in “HeltFri” – a work associated with the media organization “Faith & Media” which works for “Christian faith and good values in everyday media”
“HeltFri” aims to convey a story about pornography, rather than one that is conveyed through popular culture.
Objective knowledge about the harmful effects of pornography can also be expected when “Live from Bergen” airs on Tuesday 13 April at 22.
