Vision Norway – now on Digital Audio Broadcasting
The FM network is being phased out in Norway. Therefore, it is important that Vision Norway’s position on radio continues to modernize. That is where Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) comes in. For Vision Norway, this has been a gradual process over several years, but now they are well on their way.
This is what the TV manager in Vision Norway, Gawdat Mtrious, says, “The channel is now available on DAB radio in a total of 23 districts around Norway. If or possibly when, nationwide coverage will be available remains to be seen.”
“We have expanded as fast as we possibly can, because as of today there are simply no more resources available for this purpose. But I am proud of the offer we have received,” says the TV manager.
All bets on digital radio
“The programs you get on the radio are the same as the ones on TV. Among other things, you can listen to the well-known Studio Direkte broadcasts, if, for example, you are in the car in the evening,” says Mtrious. Studio Direkte is broadcast in the period from 8:00-11:00 pm in the evening.
He goes on to say about a major investment in Vision Norway’s own radio program recently:
“We recently premiered the new podcast/radio program, Midt På Dagen. This is a slightly different live concept than what we have done before, where it is primarily radio and podcasts that are the intended platforms. However, it is also possible to follow the program on TV,” says Mtrious. Midt På Dagen airs Monday to Friday from 12:00 to 2:00 pm.
This is DAB
Digital Audio Broadcasting or DAB, is basically “digital radio”. This is in contrast to the previous FM network, which worked analogously via radio signals.
But what are the benefits? Better capacity is provided with the possibility of several radio channels over the same frequencies, and lastly there is a real boost to the sound quality. This was the basis when the government decided to close the FM network in 2011.
To listen to DAB, a separate radio is required with options for just this. But it can still be a good investment for the future. Such radios are also available in most electronics stores in Norway.
